Litter Problems Addressed

At the last meeting of Caldicot Town Team on 03rd December, members decided that changes needed to be made towards dealing with the increasing litter problem in and around the town centre. With the new supermarket and 200+ space car park, more and more litter has been gathering at the bottom of Woodstock Way and around the perimeter of Caldicot Comprehensive School.

Caldicot Town Team wrote to Monmouthshire County Council highlighting these problems and questioned whether reducing the hours of the street cleansing team was a correct move, now that the supermarket has opened.

Monmouthshire County Council responded by stating that they have been clearing the new section of Woodstock Way on an ad-hoc basis, but agrees that litter is becoming an issue, and have since scheduled a manual sweeper on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday to clear the entire town centre and highways. In addition to this the Precinct sweeper will run through the road every Wednesday.

Understandably MCC have stated that they will not clear litter on the private car parks of the Asda site, this would be the full responsibility of Asda.

Caldicot Town Team will be keeping an eye on the amount of litter in and around the town, but would welcome any comments or concerns from members of the public through any of our normal channels.
