HELP SHAPE MONMOUTHSHIRE’S FUTURE VISITOR ECONOMY
Monmouthshire County Council is currently reviewing Monmouthshire’s tourism Destination Management Plan. And they want to hear the views of local residents and business owners, as well as our guests.
This is your chance to shape the way Monmouthshire is developed, managed and promoted as a visitor destination for the future.
Why we’re asking for your views
Tourism is vital to Monmouthshire’s economy and generates income to support a wide range of businesses that benefit from spending by visitors. According to figures supplied by tourism economic indicator STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor), the 2.29m visitors to Monmouthshire in 2023 brought in almost £329 million to the local economy and supported the equivalent of 3,462 full-time jobs. Visitor spending also helps keep rural businesses and services viable.
While economic growth is important we need to strike the right balance between economic, environmental and social value if we’re to develop tourism sustainably in Monmouthshire. This means developing a visitor economy that is most beneficial for all, by attracting the right kinds of visitors, in the right numbers, in the right places, and at the right time of year to avoid negatively impacting the environment and / or spoiling the quality of life for people who live in popular tourism destinations in the county. This will ensure that visitors continue to enjoy a positive experience here and that Monmouthshire communities continue to offer a warm welcome.
