Linkage Plans Nearing Completion

Linkage Plans Nearing Completion

Back in October 2013, Caldicot Town Team, Monmouthshire County Council and Mountford Piggot held an engagement event in Caldicot town centre and invited residents to discuss options and plans for a new linkage to join the new Asda supermarket to the existing town centre.

Since then there has been a lot of work undertaken by all parties to devise a linkage that is not only functional and practical but also entices the public to visit both the Town centre & Asda. Agreements have now been made with existing landlords London and Cambridge, who own the service road and the Waitrose car park so the town centre can thrive from the Asda development.

Caldicot Town Team will be holding another event at the beginning of August to be able to show the public the changes that are to be made in detail. We have however summarised the main points below;

  • Waitrose car park will be redesigned to incorporate a one way system and extending the original entrance at the top of Woodstock way to allow an in/out system.
  • The newly pedestrianised area outside the library and One Stop Shop will be extended along the service road to the alley behind Bargain Booze and Rock and Roller Tattoo studio.
  • The service road will only be accessible by service vehicles (deliveries) for the shops that have rear access along the service road (these include The Post Office, Bargain Booze, and the Wesley Buildings access yard) only.
  • The service road will be raised to join seamlessly with the pavement and new pedestrianised areas.
  • Better lighting, street scene enhancements and new signage will be installed to make the area, safer and more inviting for people to use at all times.

For a better understanding of how the linkage will look, keep a close eye on our Website, facebook and twitter pages, or look out for posters of meeting dates and the latest engagement event throughout the town centre.

Caldicot Town Team are disappointed that these plans had not been finalised before this date, but with so many different stakeholders involved in this process it has inevitably held up progress. We will of course, be keeping a very close eye on developments over the next few weeks, and will endeavour to help speed up the process any way we can.
