The final stage of the regeneration of Caldicot across area has been hit with delays, again.
The issue is being caused by a culvert found running directly in front and under the front windows of shop premises and is leading to further delays in reopening of Chepstow Road.
Georgie Davies, Public Liaison Officer for Alun Griffiths released this statement on Friday;
“Unfortunately, due to unexpected issues with an existing culvert, Chepstow Road will remain closed to vehicular traffic until these works are complete. Please note, these works are being undertaken on behalf of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) and will result in the overall completion of the project to be delayed. We will keep you updated regarding this matter. In the meantime, we would like to apologise to the local community for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience.”
Some minor changes have been made to allow better traffic flow during this delay, traffic lights have been removed and the road is now open for traffic to turn right out of church road, without causing a delay. The left hand turn onto Chepstow Road, will continue to stay closed however.
We will update you as soon as we have further information. We do know that this is a frustration and that it is causing and inconvenience to residents and businesses and hope that this issue is sorted as quickly as possible.
