Cygnet Injured at Caldicot Castle

It has recently come to our attention that there still seems to be some confusion over the Absolutely No Fishing rule over at Caldicot Castle.

The reasons for this are no simpler when we hear the distressing news of a young cygnet being caught up in barbed fish hooks in the pond.

A young cygnet was picked up from the grounds of Caldicot Castle on Wednesday 23rd July and was then taken to the National Swan Sanctuary in Shepperton for an operation to remove a lump of undigested food, caused by a 5cm tear in his oesophagus, from a large micro barbed hook which the cygnet had swallowed.

The rule has been in place for many years, we would urge you to keep a lookout whilst you visit the castle to ensure that anybody fishing on the pond gets reported for the offence, so that they can be prosecuted accordingly.

We will update the article as soon as we have more information, however in the mean time you can report any sightings to us at caldicottownteam@outlook.com
