As you will no doubt be aware, Covid positive cases are rising rapidly and sharply in the Severnside area, with some rates of infection now above 1000 per 100,000 population. We have been following closely the press releases and number of daily cases since the last market which was held on December 5th.
Due to the significant rises in cases we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Christmas market, due to take place on Saturday 19th Dec. This decision has been made following a full risk assessment of the event. Whilst it is important to make clear that we are legally allowed to run the market, as its outdoors, we are very conscious of the time of year, and the rising infection rate. The last thing any one of our team want is people to be contracting the virus so close to Christmas because of one of our markets.
We know that this is not the news that a lot of people want to hear, especially businesses, both working from home and those with physical premises in the town centre. We know just how difficult it has been for retailers this year and you have our full support. The risk of bringing people into the town centre on a single day is too great to overcome and adds extra risk to businesses and shoppers.
For those traders who have booked with us for the market, we will be in touch to obtain bank details to process your refunds.
Please take care, stay safe and wherever possible, shop and support local.
