Caldicot Linkage Project Will Benefit Town And Community

A partnership between Monmouthshire County Council and Caldicot’s Town Team has ensured that a link from the Asda supermarket to Caldicot Town Centre will go ahead.  Both parties are pleased that delays to initial plans have been overcome and that funding from the Newport Road development program will be used.

Monmouthshire’s cabinet meeting on June 8th approved the recommendation that a £30,000 budget be established to create the link after the Town Team provided information to support the project.  This followed talks between the Town Team, the county council, land owners London & Cambridge and supermarket chain Waitrose. Discussions are taking place to finalise agreements and dates to start construction of the link.

Aaron Reeks, director of the Caldicot Town Team said: “The Town Team was disappointed that conversations between parties broke down initially, but we are very pleased that we have been able to resolve issues and create a way for moving forward. We are delighted that work will commence once the paperwork is finalised.”

County Councillor Bob Greenland, Monmouthshire’s cabinet member for innovation, enterprise and leisure added: “We are pleased that the linkage will go ahead and thank the Caldicot Town Team for its continued enthusiasm to make Caldicot a thriving town. The linkage will enhance the town and provide a positive impact.”
