New National Retailer To Move Into Caldicot

Some weeks ago it was announced that Waitrose would be closing its doors to the public for the final time in Caldicot on Sunday 6th December 2020. Fears had been raised by both Businesses and Members of the Public about the lack of footfall following the closure, but we are pleased to reveal who is planning on taking over the 2,000 sq meter unit.

After the news which came as a shock to some residents and businesses within Caldicot, that Waitrose will be closing its doors on December 6th 2020. We are pleased to share that a new national retailer has been secured for the largest commercial property in Caldicot town centre

Aldi have made a public announcement that they will be taking over the lease of the current Waitrose unit at Wesley Buildings in Caldicot.

The discount supermarket, with over 33,000 employees in the UK alone, will breathe a much needed breath of fresh air into the town centre. Caldicot Town Team are pleased to welcome them into the community and the heart of Severnside and South Monmouthshire.

Aaron Reeks, Director of Caldicot Town Team;

A brand such as Aldi opening in Caldicot, will be a great boost for the local area, as well as for local retailers. Aldi have built up a strong brand in recent years and now caters to all walks of life, which will bring in vital custom not just from Caldicot, but from as far away as Chepstow and Magor, meaning that the catchment area for the town centre and the new supermarket extends to almost 50,000 residents.

Social media has been quick to devalue Caldicot Town Centre recently, but I think that the Co-vid pandemic shows us that more than ever, local shops are being used more and more; with the right mix of independent and a new national retailer bringing a new positive promotional campaign to Caldicot, I feel we are making strides towards improving our offering locally.

With ever growing initiatives such as the monthly specialised markets, pop up shops and more leisure style events taking place in the town centre throughout the year; there are lots of great reasons to celebrate locally.

London & Cambridge Properties are also pleased that another national retailer has been secured quickly for its premises; meaning that the Wesley Buildings block is still trading at maximum capacity.

Work has completed on phase one of the regeneration of Caldicot Town Centre at The Cross. Surveys and planning detail is currently under way for the next phase of the regeneration plans.
