Caldicot Town Team has been partnered with Gumdrop Ltd since 2017. Gumdrop Ltd is the first company in the world to recycle chewing gum into a range of new polymers that can be used in the rubber and plastics industry.
Caldicot town centre is quite like any other, it has bins, but the pavements and pedestrian areas are covered with spots of chewing gum. Caldicot Town Team are committing themselves to start and promote a new community based recycling project each year to tackle our problems of littering and low recycling usage, not just to better where we all live, work and play, but also to improve the environment, educating people into innovative ways to recycle and reuse and promoting that we all have a sense of ownership for the town we live in.
Caldicot has 5 gumdrop bins within the town centre, which are replaced when full and sent off to the factory to be recycled. We have noticed a reduction in the amount of chewing gum littering our high streets and to date have sent 7 full gumdrop bins off to be recycled into a variety of materials. You can’t miss them, they are bright pink balls which are situated on lamp posts throughout the town, pop in your gum and your done! Caldicot Town Team also provided 50 keyring balls, which are also fully recyclable for use on the go so you always have a chewing gum bin nearby.
Caldicot Town Team are proud to be a part of this new and innovative project and hope that with the support and help from our community we can continue providing the bins for years to come.
