Eisteddfod Comes to Caldicot

Caldicot will be hosting the proclamation event for the National Eisteddfod on Saturday 27th June 2015. The proclamation itself marks just over 400 days until the actual event being hosted near Abergavenny, starting on the 29th July 2016.

The proclamation being hosted in Caldicot Castle begins with a parade of the ‘Bairds’ through the town centre towards the ceremonial event in the castle, where significant media coverage us to be expected. Representatives from local schools, societies and institutions will join the marched towards the castle gardens. During the ceremony, the first list of competitions will be presented to Archdruid Christine by the local executive committee, which signifies that preparation for the competitions may begin.

Celebrations will start at 10:30 am in the town centre with the formal ceremony starting later in the day, free of admission and is expected to welcome thousands of local guests and visitors from across Wales.

In 2014, over 4000 people joined in for the processions through Caerphilly to celebrate the coming of the Eisteddfod.

The Eisteddfod being held near Abergavenny is expected to attract over 150,000 visitors during its eight days from the 29th July to the 6th August 2016.
