Volunteers’ Week is a chance to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution our volunteers make across the UK.
Here at Caldicot Town Team we simply wouldn’t be able to carry out any projects, markets, events or function without our volunteers. We are immensely proud to work with likeminded members of the community who want to help make Caldicot a better place to work, live and play.
Today we asked Dan Cooke about his experiences with Caldicot Town Team
Why did you decide to join Caldicot Town Team?
I decided to join Caldicot Town Team after helping with their events while I was apart of the police cadets have a few pitches. Fast forward 3 years and now I’m fully involved in Town Team helping at various events markets.
What is the best thing about being a volunteer with Caldicot Town Team.
Working as a team!! Well, I say team, its more like one big dysfunctional, functional family! Helping out at the events is by far the best bit! My favourite event of the year is Hogging The Bridge, We have monthly meetings all year round. We also have numerous site visits and the amount of organisation and planning behind the scenes means there is always something to do. However, seeing thousands of bikers take part and the event run smoothly gives me so much satisfaction, knowing that I am part of the team that runs it.
Also the training you can receive from Caldicot Town Team, such as Chapter 8 Training, First aid, Food Hygiene and loads more means I am always growing and learning in my role.
What activities do you get involved with?
I’m considered by most of the team as the labourer, if something needs doing, I am willing to help, from watering the hanging baskets every few days, going up in the cherry picker to hang bunting and festoon lighting, Litter picking, popping gazebos up, closing roads, moving crowd barriers and even sorting electric hook-ups for traders, the role is so diverse and something new and exciting is never far away.
Would you recommend volunteering with town team to others!
Absolutely!! It’s more than just a team it’s a family!! A very strange one at least!!!
